Making the Invisible Visible – Visual Thinking in Change Communication
As part of EUKO 2025, Dana Rulf presented a paper in London entitled “Making the Invisible Visible: Visual Thinking in Change Communication”. The paper combines practical insights with recognised academic research.
Dana Rulf contributes the practical insights into visual thinking. The academic section is provided by Fabio Sandmeier, lecturer in business communication at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU).
The study is based on qualitative interviews with visualisation experts and an international survey of visual practitioners, and shows that:
Visual methods create shared understanding and emotional connection.
They encourage participation and accelerate the implementation of change.
Images are not simply pretty decoration – they are tools for clarity, meaning-making and dialogue.
The research findings are currently being summarised, analysed and discussed in a paper. It is due to be published in the EUKO series around summer 2026.
